The faithful of St. Joseph’s Church, Bajpe, gathered to celebrate the solemn and sacred Easter Vigil, marking the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ. The ceremony, held on Holy Saturday night at 7:00 pm, began in an atmosphere of silence and anticipation, symbolizing the waiting of the Church for the light of Christ.
The celebration commenced with the Service of Light, Rev. Fr Jesudas Dcosta, Spiritual Director, St John Paul II Shrine was the main celebrant of the Holy Eucharist, concelebrated by Rev. Fr Andrew Dsouza, Parish Priest; The new fire was blessed and the Paschal Candle was lit, representing Christ as the Light of the World. As the candle was carried into the darkened church premises, the congregation joined in proclaiming “Christ our Light,” gradually illuminating the entire church premises with candles held by the faithful. The moment beautifully reflected the victory of light over darkness.
The Liturgy of the Word followed, with readings from Sacred Scripture recounting God’s saving plan from creation to redemption. Each reading invited the faithful to reflect on God’s love and faithfulness throughout history. The choir enriched the celebration with melodious psalms and hymns, creating a prayerful and uplifting atmosphere.
The celebration reached its peak with the Liturgy of the Eucharist, as the community joyfully sang the Gloria, celebrating the resurrection of the Lord. The church bells rang joyfully, and the altar was beautifully decorated, the statue of the Resurrection was solemnly unveiled, marking the joy of Christ’s victory over death, symbolizing new life and hope.
The Baptismal Liturgy was another significant highlight of the vigil. The blessing of the water and renewal of baptismal promises reminded everyone of their commitment to live as followers of Christ. The congregation actively participated, renewing their faith with devotion and joy.
The Easter Vigil at St. Joseph’s Church, Bajpe, was a spiritually enriching experience, filled with prayer, reflection, and celebration. The ceremony reminded all present that the resurrection of Christ brings hope, renewal, and peace to every heart.
