Offering Procession (Hore Kanike) in honour of St. John Paul II’s historic visit to Mangalore on the Ruby Jubilee

The faithful of Bajpe Parish joyfully commemorated the 40th Ruby Jubilee of the historic visit of St. John Paul II on Feb 01, 2026, at 10:30 am, a moment that continues to remain deeply etched in the spiritual and cultural memory of the region. This milestone anniversary served as a powerful reminder of the late Holy Father’s message of faith, unity, and hope that transcended generations.

St. John Paul II’s visit to Mangalore was not merely a pastoral event but a defining moment that strengthened the bond between the Universal Church and the vibrant local Christian community. His presence affirmed the rich faith traditions of the people and encouraged them to live the Gospel with courage, compassion, and commitment to service.

As part of the jubilee celebrations, a solemn offering procession (Hore Kanike) was held by the parishioners of St. Joseph’s Church, symbolising gratitude, devotion, and a spirit of selfless giving. Families and representatives of the parish reverently carried offerings to the altar, reflecting the biblical tradition of thanksgiving and surrender to God’s providence. The procession stood as a visual expression of faith rooted in community life, culture, and shared responsibility.

The Hore Kanike was not only an act of offering but also a renewal of the parish’s commitment to the values upheld by St. John Paul II—faithfulness to Christ, love for the Church, and service to humanity. It echoed his constant call to build a society founded on peace, dignity, and solidarity.

The Ruby Jubilee celebration united generations—those who witnessed the historic visit firsthand and the younger faithful who now inherit its legacy. Through prayer, remembrance, and symbolic acts such as the offering procession, the community reaffirmed its resolve to carry forward the enduring message of St. John Paul II in their daily lives.

Following the offering procession, an auction of the offerings brought by the parishioners was held, adding a spirit of joyful participation to the jubilee celebrations. The items offered during the Hore Kanike were reverently displayed and auctioned, with parishioners enthusiastically coming forward to purchase them.

The auction was conducted in an atmosphere of fellowship and generosity, reflecting the community’s collective commitment to support the mission and activities of the Church. Every bid symbolised not merely a transaction, but an act of thanksgiving and shared responsibility, echoing the values of stewardship and service emphasised by St. John Paul II.

The proceeds from the auction will be utilised for the welfare and pastoral initiatives of the parish, ensuring that the spirit of giving experienced during the Ruby Jubilee continues to bear fruit. The event fostered unity among the faithful and strengthened the sense of belonging within the parish community.

Together, the offering procession and the subsequent auction stood as meaningful expressions of faith in action, beautifully complementing the commemoration of the 40th Ruby Jubilee of St. John Paul II’s visit to Mangalore, and leaving behind a lasting spiritual and communal impact.

As Mangalore marks forty years of this sacred milestone, the legacy of St. John Paul II continues to inspire hearts, reminding the faithful to “be not afraid” and to walk steadfastly in faith, hope, and love.
