St Joseph’s Church Celebrates Community Day with Solemn Eucharist and Vibrant SCC Recognition

Community Day at St Joseph’s Church was commemorated on March 9, 2025 with Holy Eucharist celebrated by Rev Dr Ronald Cutinha, Parish priest. The festal Mass was concelebrated by Assistant Parish Priest, Fr Vivian Nishanth Rodrigues.

The Holy Bible was solemnly brought in procession, accompanied by burning lamps and adorned with beautiful flowers, symbolizing reverence and devotion. Upon reaching the altar, the Bible was placed with great honor and respect. Rev Fr Vivian Nishant Rodrigues paid homage by garlanding the sacred scripture, signifying its central place in the spiritual life of the community. Mr. Stany Dsouza, PPC Vice President and Mrs. Gracy Sequeira, PPC Secretary reverently positioned the burning lamps on either side of the Bible, representing the light of God’s word. Additionally, Mr. Eugene Dsouza, Former Coordinator of  Deaney Small Christian Community(SCC) and the first coordinator of SCC in our parish along with Parish Formation committee member Sr. Florine Jyothi offered flowers, symbolizing the spreading fragrance and beauty of the divine message.

Following this, the Gurkars of all 24 wards of the parish stepped forward to present the positive contributions and activities of the SCC. These were creatively displayed on a beautifully decorated board placed prominently at the front, highlighting the vibrant faith life and communal spirit nurtured within each ward. This programme was administered by Sr, Prefilda, the Deanery SCC religious coordinator.

In his homily, Rev Fr Ronald Cutinha, emphasized the purpose and significance of the SCC within the parish. He highlighted the vital role it plays in fostering faith, unity, and service among parishioners. The priest also encouraged active participation from all members, underlining the importance of collective involvement in sustaining and strengthening the SCC’s mission and outreach.

On this special occasion, “Ekvot”—a book showcasing the commendable deeds and initiatives undertaken by the Small Christian Community (SCC) in our parish—was officially released. Copies of the book were distributed to the Gurkars of all 24 wards as a token of appreciation and encouragement.

Mrs. Sharal Dsouza and Mrs. Violet Pinto were specially honored for their exemplary commitment, having recorded the highest attendance in the SCC Executive Committee meetings.

In recognition of their active engagement post-COVID, the following wards were awarded for conducting the highest number of SCC gatherings: St. Antony Ward, Holy Cross Ward, St. Peter Ward, St. Francis I Ward, and Sacred Heart of Jesus Ward. Their dedication serves as an inspiration to the entire parish community.

Mrs. Juliet Moras compered the book release and recognition programme. The community day celebrations concluded with breakfast.
