In response to the universal call of the Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, the Year of Children 2026 was solemnly inaugurated at our parish on 11th January 2026, during the 9:00 am mass by Fr Andrew Dsouza, marking a joyful and faith-filled beginning to a year dedicated to nurturing, protecting, and celebrating children as precious gifts of God.
Declaring 2026 as the Year of Children, Pope Leo XIV has invited the global Church to place children at the heart of pastoral life—recognizing their dignity, innocence, and vital role in shaping the future of the Church and society. The Holy Father’s message emphasizes love, care, faith formation, and the responsibility of families and communities to create safe, nurturing environments where children can grow in wisdom, grace, and faith.
The inauguration at our church was marked by a prayerful and meaningful celebration. The liturgy highlighted Jesus’ words, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them” (Matthew 19:14), reminding the faithful of Christ’s special love for children. Special prayers were offered for the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of all children, especially those facing poverty, neglect, conflict, and injustice.
Children actively participated in the celebration through readings, hymns, and symbolic gestures, reflecting the true spirit of the Year of Children—listening to their voices and encouraging their involvement in the life of the Church. Parents, catechists, and parishioners were encouraged to renew their commitment to guiding children in faith, values, and love.
As we journey through the Year of Children 2026, our parish looks forward to organizing various spiritual, educational, and community-building activities centered on children. May this special year inspire us to walk hand in hand with our children, helping them encounter Christ and grow as compassionate, faith-filled individuals.
Let us entrust all children to the loving care of Jesus and seek the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that this year may bear abundant fruits in our families, parish, and society.
